No. These are "grudge hits". Both players lost their t10 spots to the ABs and have set out to disturb another player's t10 spot instead.

These hits took over 20-30m jets each and are in no way profitable towards finishing higher in rank.

It is still mathematically profitable (i.e gives a higher finish) to grab yesterday for cashers (due to high food prices - stocking $44-45 food to sell at $35 during destock is pretty bad compared to getting more land to stock far cheaper $39-40 food a few days from now).

Likewise, it was profitable for farmers to grab up till about 1-2 days ago, but only on other farmers (which saves on construction costs).

That's why they are top 10 countries. :)

Amount of acres taken are identical for both cases. You just get more buildings already built with the second case over the first.

Note countries 1/2 destroyed country may actually still be in 72 hours ghost acre DR (to ABs, for eg), even if he has attacked and is not actually in standard DR.

It's not that its hard to make an app. Especially if its just a browser wrapper.

It's really that making an app serves no purpose. Most of you think "hey lets put it on the app store" and it magically makes money. No it really doesn't work that way. Many friends have put out apps, and they see maybe 500 downloads tops over the entire year, a portion of which are just personal friends who saw it on Facebook that one time. You can read about this type of blogs all the time on the web too.

The App Store is really saturated. To get anywhere, you actually need to do marketing. Buying ad banner space for a week on a heavily visited website that covers gaming on mobile devices would probably cost you $10k, and the returns aren't anywhere worth it, most people don't even notice banner ads these days even if they don't run adblock. What you need then is product reviews from websites that cover games (especially upcoming games), and hope it spreads from there. This isn't going to happen for EE, especially if you don't know any industry contacts with those review websites. This is called "Hype". Is anyone going to make game trailers about EE? Maybe even a promotional video to show viewers why they should pick up the game on the app store? How about a video about all the exciting things you can do in EE?

If your app doesn't appear on the "What's New?" "What's Hot?" or "Editor's pick", or Top 10 Paid/Grossing/Free/etc, you can forget about it. For any typical user that visits the App Store, they either are searching for a very specific app, or they are browsing one of these "top lists".

Have you seen how many million apps there are on the App Store that have less than 50 downloads? Why would people find this one app? By randomly searching "Earth"? Or "Empires"? There are 100+ new apps/updates approved on the App store every minute, 99.9% of which never see the light, and most of which are just hobby apps to add to their resume.

Only if you want triple AAA graphics (which was the original premise of that thread). :)

If it's text based, it's probably less than a couple of day's work to embed a browser window in an app, and pretend it is a real app. I'm not certain such a "wrapper" would actually count as an app and pass Apple App Validation either.

The thing is, you can already play it in any phone browser, what advantages are there to make it an app other than push notifications? (Edit: Most phones, even Apple, allows you to make a webpage shortcut on your home screen too, if you want to pretend that is an App.)

In the absence of suiciders/foul play, you can more or less predict the top 10 though. Just go eestats, sort by land descending, take away the rank 10 guy and add the techer with the most land, and that is likely how it will go.

Lol vic. A player can always still suicide. It's just going to always be by PS, it really isn't that difficult for someone to go all-jetter and PS a large country once every day and forcing it to go war with you.

The GDI changes on solo server reduced the practical "suicide-able" range. A 20k land country can still easily suicide a 50k one, but a 5k one can't.

You're missing the point.

Chance events in a game is only good if it offers the player __meaningful choices__ to make. Chance in poker/blackjack is interesting, because the player can then make a meaningful decision to bluff/fold/etc.

If you're getting attacked "by chance", that is meaningful because it means your country looked attractive for some reason, maybe it was landfat, or it was the biggest target a suicider could attack. There are mitigating choices that could have been made, by boosting defenses to look less landfat, or by joining GDI, or getting tanks/SDI/warfare.

Having variable market times doesn't add or remove meaningful choices to the player, but serves as a method of randomizing things such that market manipulation is significantly harder between players (market transfers, etc).

Variable explore rates are there not to add/remove meaningful choices, but to enforce the fact that there won't be a "best 100 turn optimized startup" that someone can figure out. You still have startups guides that you can follow, but they are more generic in nature ("explore 1 bpt worth, build").

When designing game features and mechanics, the key thing to understand is
- Is this mechanic fun/interesting?
- Will it frustrate players?
- What does the game mechanic hope to achieve?
- Does the pros outweigh the cons?

Earthquakes as a game mechanic does absolutely nothing but frustrate players. It's not fun, it is not interesting, and doesn't serve any purpose other than to "make things random" (like explore rates), nor add meaningful gameplay choices. Variable explore rates does not particularly add meaningful gameplay choices, but at least they don't detract much or frustrate the player much either.

That is still correct!

If you're lazy to remember the formula, just take labs/3 as your TPT.

Reasoning: If you assume Labs/Land is 90%, then
0.17*Labs*(1+Labs/Land)+3
0.17*Labs*(1.9)+3
0.323*Labs+3

If your labs is less than 85% of your land, then you're doing it wrong.

Should just remove Earthquakes from the game.

Earthquakes really add nothing of value to the game (there are no strategic choices to make about it), and only causes frustration (you cannot mitigate them), and can make/break a rank or two on large countries near the end of the reset.

The random Booms and droughts/strikes/etc don't add anything to the game either (again, there are no strategic choices to make about it). I'll suggest removing them as well (but keep the booms from the Bonus points).

No. It's deletable if the mods feel you abused the DR mechanic. It's not dependent on any amount of turrets.

Sometimes it's clear whether it is intentional or not. If it isn't clear, be prepared to be deleted.

The rules are there to prevent abuse because it has resulted in top finishes that were unjustified. If it isn't abuse, you won't be deleted. If you knowingly plan for it to take advantage of it, then that qualifies as abuse.

Yes, you can specify if a textbox is numeric, but it is dependent on the browser you are using to implement it.

Using a number textbox would be annoying though, I would rather type "250k" than having to type 250000 and count the number of 0s to double check.

This would break existing functionality though.

You can use the letters "k" and "m" to denote 1000 and 1000000. That is, you can buy "200k" units and sell "5.32m" bushels to buy 200000 units and sell 5320000 bushels respectively.

I suppose you could check for any letters that is not "k" or "m".

We're talking a little bit about different things.

Because of expenses, Commies need to sell their units on the market every 50-100 turns. It is very common for Commies to "double sell" every day on other servers. Problem is, turns comes in so fast on Express that you often end up with 2X or 3X turns to spend when you login, to compensate, they increased the maximum % you can sell. With the default %, you would literally be forced to babysit your country every 2 hours instead of every 6 hours to be playable. So when you wake up overnight with all that turns that you can't spend because you need to sell first, you need to sell 3x every 2 hours to catchup on the turn rate.

Commies dominate on this server because of a different reason: Game length. Express runs on a total of 1800 turns, every other server has over 3000 turns. The shorter the game length, the better Commies are, because again expenses. Expenses formula isn't linear, it grows exponentially with NW size, which means Commies are actually the worst countries to run on servers with long game lengths (eg Alliance with 4320 turns). 1800 turns on Express means that the typical land sizes countries grow to by the end of the reset are small enough that Expenses does not become a problematic factor for Commies. You'll almost never see Commies finish top 10 on Alliance, and if it happened, it is probably only because there was a server war or something. Server wars don't exist on solo servers.

I'm not disputing this. I agree that a lot of the charm is exactly because of the fast paced turns. I'm just pointing out that such a server cannot be moderated properly without at least 6 mods.

As such, players should either expect "slow" responses (hey its 180 turns! Imagine the uproar of 2.5 days response time if it was Alliance server!) and be appreciative of the fact that there are even any mods at all, or not have the server exist.
