GDI isn't what limits grabbing on this server as much as the small # of players. IMHO

I know several people who have switched from metal halide/high pressure sodium to CFL. Lumens and spectrum can be accounted for with cfl's and the energy savings are significant.

I have to admit all-x has treated me far better than grabbing. I know my countries would win if I could just grab an extra 4k land per set. It's just not worth it to me. I can finish top 10 most of the time playing all-x but I don't expect to win a set unless the market is in my favor for the entire set. Never happens ... but it could.

Yep, the only "rules" in tourney have always been what you yourself can enforce. Grabbing someone ... even once ... means that you are taking a GAMBLE weather or not he will retaliate. Retaliation is not always going to be what ... or when you expect it. It is a chance you are willing to take. If you are going to grab you have to decide how much SDI to carry ... how many tanks to keep on hand ... how many turrets you need ... weather you need to diffuse his missiles. It is ultimately,more the choices you make that determine what happens to your country. Some people will nuke you over a grab ... some will AB you ... some may even suicide you ... OH WELL, deal with it. Grabbing is dangerous business. Be careful who you grab.

Myself, I've always seen it as a management game. It's about balancing the management of ALL aspects of the game ... bring able to create an economy ... create a military capable of keeping what you gain ... diplomacy ... the ability to fight when necessary ... adjusting to market factors ... knowing how much tech and in what areas it's needed for the strat you play and type player you are.
I've been attacked/suicided on as much as anyone else in this game. It's all part of it. I have good finishes and I have bad finishes. Oh well. Finishing top 10 is cool but so is winning a war. Either way I have fun. If I loose a war or just run my strat poorly and don't finish well I just try to use that to improve my overall gameplay.

I get bored running the same TLC (Top Level Commie) and although I'm not a warmonger ... a war every now and then is fun. I thought you felt the same. Well if it was dantzig I do apologize. It seems he may have been more upset over his primary country. He had LG'd me earlier in the set (tourny ... I don't play primary) but I decided to wait and try to get a larger return from him later in the set. He retaled & I lost out ... no big deal. But instead of saying he was just retaling he threatened to go to war ... so I obliged him. When he said he was prepared to go to war I just thought OK wars are fun too so why not. It wasn't even what I would call a suicide ... it was only 12 hrs worth of turns.

I really hope you didn't self delete because of a few AB's. You said you were prepared to go to war. I just thought you wanted to have a little end of set fun.

Jeremy you may be right. Over the years though I've run across many, many people who believe that if the president vetoes a bill that's it. Most do not realize that the President can be overridden by Congress.

Ronald Reagan had 9 vetoes overridden, George H W Bush only had 1 overridden, Bill Clinton had 2, George W Bush had 4 and Barack Obama hasn't had any to date so ... it's about time they handed him one ... on something that matters to Americans.

The Presidential veto power is established in Article I, Section 7 of the United States Constitution. This section provides that if a bill is passed by both houses of congress it is then presented to the President for signature. If the President has objections to the bill, he is to return it to the house in which it originated (either the House of Representatives or the Senate). That house of congress may then vote on the bill again and if they vote for it to be a law by a two-thirds majority, the bill is then sent to the other house of congress where it must again pass by a two-thirds majority.

I'm old and don't do facebook so I really hadn't been following what they were doing there. Hmmmm seems I'm a day late and a dollar short. In that case will I still be able to collect a bonus if I send people to join without going through facebook. I simply refuse to join any social network even though I have friends who keep trying to get me to join.

We all agree this game needs more players. By now, most of you who are over 25 have probably been exposed to some type of MLM... Amway, Avon, Mary Kay, Herbalife. If not, here is the general run down of how this will work.

Step 1. You get 6 of your friends, relatives, co-workers, or just people you meet to start playing.
Step 2. You get each of them to get 4 of their friends, relatives, co-workers, or just people they meet to play.
Step 3. You work with they 6 you got to join and have them get the people they recruited to recruit 2 each.

Maybe pang/qz/slag could work out some small bonus like a free turn for every 2 you recruit to make it worth your effort. Then, following the MLM reward model, another free turn for every 4 they recruit. Then, one more free turn for every 8 their recruits bring in. (I know pang/qz/slag would have to put in a referral box in the create an account code so they could track who referred new players... sorry guys)

At this point you have been able to bring 78 new people into the game.
Assuming 600 players, (because I like round numbers and there are 634 countries on alliance right now), if only 2% of our current player base were able to do this, then that would bring somewhere around 900 (round numbers) new players into the game. With the 600 we already have that makes 1500.

At 1500 there would be a lot more land out there and that in turn would bring back a lot more grabbing (IMHO).

Here is the challenge.
Get 6 new people join over the course of the next 2 sets.
Just keep telling yourself .....
Some will, some wont, somewhere there are 6 for me.
