Some people aren't able to connect to the server, and the news bots haven't been in #alliance for awhile now. Netsplits don't take this long, any ideas what's up?

Foresight and preparation can negate the advantage of a speedy FS. For instance once an FS starts, you don't need to wait until a specific country is being hit to react. Speaking for myself, I had my phone on IRC sitting next to me in the office, set to alert if my country showed up in the #alliance news feed. I knew I was a potential target, so once my phone buzzed I was instantly on and walling. I wasn't the only one.

The ten-second kills (there were some even this fast) were only possible when the victim had near-zero troops, meaning absolutely no breaking or even mid-breaking discipline or hesitation was required. A blindside will always be a blindside, but nerfing the speed too much removes the chance for an alliance to differentiate itself in terms of defensive war preparation.

Buying out one batch results in almost a 50% price increase? What does that tell you about the ridiculous amount by which some people are trying to undercut the market?

Turrets have been moving all day in the 135-145 range, meaning each person that sold a batch of 100k at 110 pissed away almost 3 million bucks in potential profit. But hey, to each his own!

If MD truly were as Dagvation described it, how does one explain ICN (as mentioned above, not pacted) being given so much as the time of day? How can MD's return to the game be so cancerous and detrimental to the game, that it has nevertheless grown this set? How is it that non-Earth MD players are joining, succeeding, enjoying, and staying, even as he swears left and right that MD's return will only cause players to flee?

Balance to a generic warchat, and you'll have balanced the FS as well. Should one person, online and aware of the circumstances, be able to stand up to and negate the combined efforts of 5 coordinated players? 10? 20? If you neuter the attacker too much, it will become impossible to kill a country outside of a massively coordinated effort, especially as internet access becomes more ubiquitous (and stonewalling becomes easier).

"It should take X players with maximum turns no less than Y minutes to kill an unattended country, using all available turns. It should take Z players to kill that country if they get online in time."

THIS is how attacking vs. defending strength should be balanced. The FS will naturally extend this balance, and it is otherwise up to alliances to be proactive in terms of checking if potential adversaries are storing turns or not. FS's shouldn't be neutered as a tool because alliance A failed to discover or react to alliance B storing turns for three days.
