i would have thought that business and residential technology would decrease food production (self-farming farmer :P ) since there are more people to feed.

but oddly enough i guess it just means they pick more food off the field!!!!!

oh and only reason i got those techs was because since i had to buy up military, i was starting to go in the negative :P and i did not want to build residential and zones so i thought the tech would be better :P and woila!!! it is!!!

Based on your massive pop gains and oil production increase, it looks like your country was below 80% max pop. All Production (including food/oil) gets nerfed on a sliding scale when you fall below 80% of your max pop, which is defined by land, residences, rez tech, and tax rate.

Normally, an increase in pop will increase food consumption.

just think of it this way, If your country is de-populated, there aren't enough people to man the rigs/farms/ICs, etc. As your population recovers, your production of everything will increase.

Also notice the popluation gain on the 2nd turn as higher than the 1st turn you posted.

You achieve max prodcution at 80% of your "max" pop.

From the wiki (some good stuff in there). I don't think the pop formaula has been changed recently.

The exact formula for max pop is:
(1-0.95*Taxrate)*(24*Res+12*Land)*ResTech*GvtPOP*BioFactor
where
Taxrate = tax rate as a decimal (0.00 - 0.70)
Res = total number of residences
Land = total number of acres
ResTech = amount of residential tech (1.00 - 1.88)
GvtPOP = 0.85 for the Fascism government, 1.50 for the Theocracy government, 1.00 for all other governments
BioFactor = 0.5 if the country is suffering from at least one bioterrorism plague, 1.00 otherwise

Plug in the numbers and you can get the really close to the number. Or just notice when your oil production stops increasing per turn run without bulding rigs and/or spy production without building ICs.

is this why in a lot of the strats they start with a tax rate of 80 or something for one turn and then a different tax rate for another turn. to increase max pop resulting in more money to build more land faster?

Some peeps use that way to get an early cash infusion. After testing things out a bit, you have ~$5000 more cash and ~10 more bushels after 80 turns using the 70% tax rate for turn 1 and 35% for turns after that. In this test, I built 80 CSs only which simultates a lot of early builds.

as a farmer the increase of pop from res tech is offset by money saved on expense but don't go building any res zones that's less productive than farms if you are fascist.

you should aim for 165 bus/res as a min and 220% agri tech all times. once you notice a drop in military tech in the low 2k's to high 1k's pump that to 86%
