What Celphi said. Basically stick to 35% and 50/50 unless food prices are exceptionally high or low, or unless you are warring and you want to insulate yourself from being population killed.

why not 37% ? i do fine with that number :)

but high pci is useless if you don't have the population to multiply it by.

Don't tell people about the extra 2 %.... that's a few million dollars difference in the finishes....

35% > 37% when food is below $45. (the number is actually higher than $45, I'm just too lazy to recalc it.)

As your tax rate increases your max population decreases, thus giving you fewer peasants to collect those taxes from. Whenever food costs gets to be like $50+ then it's actually better to have fewer peasants.


If you're a THEO this set and you want to know your best tax rate, then post your bus/res tech along with bus/res buildings & I'll give you the exact #s.
