The argument about abortion is one that can never be "won". It all boils down to whether you believe that a fetus is a human life (something which science will never be able to prove or disprove)

So, if you believe that if it ain't breathin air it ain't human, then the tattoo argument makes perfect sense. To someone like me who believes that there is another life here in addition to the mother's, the tattoo argument is absolutely absurd. Would it be legal for a conjoined twin to murder his twin, in order to do what he wanted with "his" body?

OK, conservatives are the ones who are "Pro-Life", yet also "Anti-welfare" and "Anti-sex education" and supposedly supportive of "less government regulation".

I don't know how creating laws to prevent abortion coincide with any of these other issues. This is why I don't understand conservatives.

More importantly, on the abortion issue. It's my body. I'll decide if I want to have and raise a kid or not. And adoption is not always the best option. Stop making laws that take away my freedoms.

On that note, I do agree that someone who has had a lot of abortions, needs to have something else done. Maybe that should be decided, say, after the 5th abortion, you get snipped, so you cannot get pregnant again, or something like that.

BTW, I'm Libertarian. This means that I support less government regulation over my freedoms, but I do support government regulation that actually helps this country and its people.

ahhh, that's what the argument boils down to again - the point at which life begins. in my opinion, your religious ideals shouldn't override/infringe upon a persons freedom of choice over her own body. if you're christian, and against abortions, sure that's cool, you don't have to have one if you don't want one. but why should someone who's either atheist, buddhist, rastafarian, pastafarian be bound by your religious beliefs?

braden, I agree that people who choose to have an abortion should pay for it themselves. On the other hand, if you don't allow her that choice (to have an abortion), are you saying that you are willing to pay to raise the child, since you give her no other choice after she has become pregnant?

Think of this...It costs approximately $400 to have an abortion, but I believe it's hundreds of thousands of dollars to raise a child. Which bill would the taxpayers be more willing to pay, if forced to choose one? Plus, what kind of child might we get from a home that was forced to raise this child? Quite possibly a criminal, or, if his parents happened to be on welfare, then he too is likely to end up on welfare.

What of the young parents entering college, but cannot afford to raise a child and go to college? Now we have 1 or 2 people who could have gone to college and become successful people who then decide to have a child when they can raise it properly, or be forced to have the child now and never go to college, thus struggling just to get by from month to month. Money problems are the main cause of divorce. So, where $400 could have created a good, loving, successful family, instead, we end up with a divorced couple, with 1 or more kids who grow up in what could be a bad environment.

As for the offer to pay for the tattoos, well...people on welfare or food stamps may be forced to use that money on certain things, but if those people work, they can now use their work income to get the tattoos, so in a sense, taxpayers do pay for the tattoos for those people on gov assistance. But, even though I make this point, I'm not saying that we should make it illegal for people on welfare to get tattoos, etc.
