as to whether im for or against it, in ffa i think we could live without it, since if you have 16 you can do something about farming

but it should probably be balanced by increasing exploring somewhat if its made less effective

but really i think you take your 16 and you do what you want, if you want 1 good 1 and 15 creap ones fine

if you want to sacrificie some to try and get the whole as high as possible which is how im thinking that should be ok too

and if it does get taken out i see it being like 1a a while ago when land totals got very very small and everyone started being all explore

with how small the game is and how many pacts people have i cant see anything else happening

even in the old days when i used to grab and get 50k odd countries in ffa very few people were grabbing, but since the server had 50k countries it was spread out a lot

and there were a lot of untagged

including untagged bot countries that didnt retal, which i believe was where most of the land came from

i remember in the old days leadership in FFA was a bit silly

mercinc came from a system where the top leader was always coloured red

but back then almost everyone was on ezclan where the top level was purpleb by default, so people would refer to themselves as purples

and it started off semi restrained, mi had 1 overlord, then i took over and we had 3, which was also the 1a system for MI

that was effiniti and i think sully

we kept 3 for a long time but it gets to a point where people dont really step down and others got promoted

azzkikkr and krillos and freak/amazone/estelle come to mind

but other tags it seemed like half the members where head/pres/council/purple/level6

ezvlan had levels i think 7 was site owner and 6 was the highest you could have more than 1 person, but eventually it added levels to about 9, then after that you could have as many as you wanted

so MI was in TC and there were shared TC leader boards that i used to get grumpy about people having access to

because certain clans gave way more people access to them to inflate their level

clans would recruit members based on offering them top level permissions as incentive, and if your a 500 country tag trying to get a 100 country player it makes a certain sense

there became very few actual members in any clan

take LaE now, 384 countries, so a minimum of 24 members, i get the impression about 6 are top level leaders, they probably have a council

it wouldnt be surprising for half the members to be leaders, and thats the biggest tag

in a smaller tag like ESD might be if you were having a leadership structure it could probably include every member

/rant off

desperado reverse two stepping is when you farm down a country, usually an all jetter so its thin

then depending on policies you might wait 72 hours then you wait until the retal has been taken on your jetter

then you farm it again

basically you benefit by running thin countries and hitting phat ones, but moving the land somewhere you want it more

dropping land then grabbing is also somewhat lame

since the goal is to hurt others, or just amuse yourself by getting big gains

but the differance is its a lot harder to make a case that a country or another country of the same player is benefiting from it in the way that twostepping works

one other thing to remember is the 15 and now 16 country rules did not come in for game balance reasons

they came in because mehuls server couldnt handle the load

back then there were a lot of bots being run

and a lot of people who ran a lot of countries by hand, up around the 400 mark fot the highest i think were legit

then there were some people i forget who, but in TAKERS i think that got up to a 10k obvious bot

each set people would make more than last set including the botters, but that set broke the server

the biggest set was something like 55k

then mehul started closing country registration after a few days, so people rushed to make spare countries they could use as restarts when their mains got killed

i think mehuls intent was to limit the server to 40k countries

after that i think he shut ffa down grumbling about profit and bots, then brought it back with a laxly enforced 15 country limit

which created the concept of strings of 15, since no one really respected FFA not being what we thought of as a free for all at the time

it took quite a while before it became frowned upon to run more than 15

i think after the server shut again and it became a bit of "use it responsable or lose it" situation

nowadays i have no idea about the cost server cpu and so on situation but i think we all play with the hope that its a level playing field in most ways

its good to discuss where we as players want to see the game head since the devs are active, maybe not necessarily this issue but we should be discussing things like this regularly

particularly things only relate to this server since the devs may not know as much about that as other aspects of the game

now3p in a way your the one using semantics :P

id guess bp's first one was more accurate its just you either want to know before your countries get killed or would offer reps or something

whereas now it looks like you are ok with two stepping after bp's edit

snawdog i believe its a bit of a misunderstanding with now3p just wanting to auth stuff before it happens, which is what i used to want to do

of course it has to be reasonable auth, and demanding contact before every 2:1 on a pact or whatever gets tiresome but kills isnt as common a thing

snawdog i mean not common as in people dont two step very often

not uncommon as in people two step you then dont get killed

well any restriction you put based on same player or same tag can easily be gotten around by 2 people farming eachothers countries in eachothers tags

it would be possible to put in place restrictions on

a grabs b
b grabs a
a grabs b
b grabs a

and so on, by reducing dr wearing off or making a special rule for it
(as in if it happens reduce building gain 10% each time or something)

and you could make penalties for grabbing the same country a lot, but it would need to be pretty harsh to effect non techers

if you made exploring less effective for a farmed country that effects too much other stuff

and self farmers could probably circle farm or staircase farm fine anyway

its doable in programming

even if you do that though it just makes anyone who teams up with one other player almost as efficient as before

would need someone who plays the same way you do and so on

so the result is anyone who wants to abuse it can but the entry barrier is higher so now those doing the same thing it would aim to prevent would have a larger comparative advantage

id like if when i run say 20 turns exploring or cashing, if i can scroll down the list and see coloured missile production

i think you have oil, food, and quake events coloured already

i assume most people get happy when they see they produced a missile

btw i wouldnt object to creating .05 missiles per turn with 5% warfare tech, and even setting missile production or just .2 .2 and .1 or whatever ratios you like, but that would be a game change

and you probably need to decide how much of the randomness you can take out of the game

Mr Lime those explore numbers are way off.

A rep is more like 16 acres a turn exploring at 8k.

And the cost goes up a lot slower than the comparative benefit does.

Clan Enshula has merged into clan ESD

Please be advised ESD will be doing retals for tag enshula while enshula tags across.

Due to the new tag changing feature these retals will be in effect for 0 seconds.

Thankyou.

combined they are ahead in tnw at this point, but will have to wait and see after a couple of days when its easier to see how it should wind up with stocks being spent and FS's being made

it is likely sof will have more countries though so for pan to win they will need to have more stock

lots of bots were involved in the wars

ironically one of the wars was started after homer grabbed the lula bot and didnt accept its retals then called in defensive allies to kill it

when it was following fairly standard retal and kill rules

retrospective policing is always a big ask, but people tend to remember who does it to them

so even if someone wasnt supposed to be grabbing pan it might not be the best idea to have been doing it

if die do recalltech and recallgoods and cancelorders

not sure if you can do housekeeping on a death event though you and i kind of like the goods staying on the market, just not so sure about the orders

since the sell orders help to stabilise the market a bit while the deorders could destabilise it a bit (if high, if low could actually help a bit)

say you had a demo reseller killed while offline while it had orders to buy oil for perhaps 60 when oil was for sale at about 100 earlyish set

oil may go up to about 250ish and an order for 2b cash worth of oil could be sitting there for a month until oil crashes, just eating the odd little chunk of oil (could be for an insane amount of cash in a server without a 2b limit)

whearas if a player was still controlling the country eventually they would cancel the order or use more of the money for something else

i just dont like the idea of potentially outdated orders that no ones able to change sitting around a bit like timebombs

of course i dont know at what point dead countries are purged, on earth it was 24 hours at one point but also about 2 weeks at another point

the impression i get is you leave dead countries in the system for the whole set her but remove them from score list and alive clan list at the next 5 minute update

perhaps once a new country is created with the old number the orders would disapear

totally cosmetic but i would appreciate being able to sort by:

a) rank/net (already exists obviously but wouldnt want it to disapear)
b) land
c) government type
d) country number (in ffa its useful if people have consecutively made countries, particularly in wars)
e) perhaps a way to list all dead countries first or last when you are viewing them

no idea how much effort it would take on your part though

sometimes i go to click on them because usually anything that is that yellow colour is clickable

Why not have a simple text note clickable on a clan info page where you can put anything you like, retal policy, fa contacts, humour. Sure you can put anything you like on the website you link to but more accessible is probably a good thing.

Would also be amusing to be able to put info notes on your own country.

it has more to do with fascism's oil bonus and the general failings of a rainbow strat

but for restarts the equations differant, i remember limited sets when oil was 500 stablish when i made restarts, that was 940/acre/turn income back then with fascism i think

traditionally in wars you sell your tech stockpile to maintain spending above income for a short period of time

since at some point selling off 50k weapons to buy 1m jets is better than having an extra 10% effectiveness on 0 jets

enshula Game profile

with a thinner ttr spending more of its income on jets rather than stockpiling

but usually it would be thin/regular ttr doing it to a casher/farmer

tmbr by their nature dont need to stock just grow, but their income isnt comparable either

no thats cool, but i dont enjoy it when the only strat that you wont get topfed with is techer, thats why i played techers this set since i was expecting ffa to be very topfeedy

it doesnt seem to be that way except for the insane land countries with no defence though

i was calcing max defence on some of the 70k countries a few days ago and it was crazy

enshula Game profile

Member

2510

Jun 18th 2010, 3:42:49

i probably posted a very long post explaining how its almost impossible with 3 offense allies and planned strike versus two defence allies to run a non techer with sufficient defence not to get successfully grabbed by some early stocking 10k techer or something

right now techers make about double per acre what a fully teched casher would

but a grabbing casher wouldnt be fully teched at this point so it might be as high as triple, and its not that long ago tech prices were 50% higher

the problem is that in the old days people used to be okish with teching at 1800 a point, after the change that became 2400 a point, but prices are usually well above that

and even in pure $/acre terms near enough isnt good enough because of the food cycle
