heh yes, i'm a bit stuck in between so at the mercy of markets and trends... gives a really strong feel of the market playing both though which is novel. should save me a packet in stocking without the 10% tax or expensive food... but only if i can grow enough in time to make it worthwhile.

lol vamps, still wrong and you know it. etft didn't play this set, at all, we didn't run any countries.. two guys had countries untagged when we decided not to bother - our core warrers are fighting in 1a, myself included. the guys in perfect aren't members in our boxcar site. you know this though because i've told you before.

my surprise that perfect included superfly is genuine as i've not been running a tag this set so haven't been paying attention. i guess you wasted a set (like you waste every set) killing some other guys and tried to justify it to (someone?) by saying it's your most evil enemy and the guys who beat you 4 sets in a row so you have a grudge...

4 sets in a row tho, that must huuurt!!

you're yet to beat anyone 4 sets in a row are you? although you did bore us into playing on 1a this set - quite an achievement lol

heh yea i thought it wasn't necessary but at least it made me retal him and get my jet count up which helped speed growth (silver linings :P)

anyway, i didn't plan this switch so i had been growing as a normal commie and buying indy tech... i just decided to try it randomly at an unplanned time. I saved up cash and got high agri and built farms a bit before the switch (had about 8k built indies before the switch), while grabbing (about 3k farms and 1k mixed buildings and ubuilt), then switched.

the commie tech bonus made my low agri tech much more effective while i built up farms with stocked cash and continued to sell mil from my indies, without tax as a demo.

the cost was the standard penalty % minimum. i didn't add up all the factors for an overall $ value, but there is potential here if you time it right. the best part is the flexibility it offers, although not planning for it costs a ton and this time i think i'd have finished higher had i stayed commie, based on my startup potential.

Yep, I'd suggest something like (and i'm opening this to critique)....

Note: when 'placing goods for sale' there are circumstances where it's best to sell at a price that WILL sell, and avoid recalling, or to use the recall. Think before placing for sale which works best for you.

PS your jets (if landgain is beneficial)
Convert most of your cash to bushels (it's normal to leave a quantity of cash on hand but be aware you lose the conversion percentage of cash on hand, buildings and bonus points, and tech, and mil not on the market)
Place max mil & food for sale
Place max tech for sale
Convert government
Recall tech
Recall mil and food
Place food for sale or sell on private (or combination) to regenerate cash to rebuild

congrats h2o, looked solid all set. in the endgame there was never much doubt it would be between you and crest (great startup you both had in a terrible early food market)

if i had waited a week for my switch and not been hit a second time after letting some guy have his first grab i'd have definitely been competing for a better position... i switched just as food prices hit $33 for the only time in the set, which left me straggling by a mile until prices rose and i got my tech up (grabbing and growing less for an unnecessary week).

the market then switched so heavily towards farmers and away from commies i could get back on track, but i suffered for that week.

so close to an epic set...!!! but, basically i just mistimed it. badly!

@qz, that you (collectively - the admins) don't play these servers definitely results in a noticeable lack of consideration of the effects of wide ranging game changes when they are made with 1a in mind. That isn't a criticism, i hardly have time to play more than 1 server at a time myself, but it's a valid point to consider.

I would like to reiterate xinhuan's suggestion of a panel of established players to run concepts past prior to implementation. Doesn't need to include me, but also would require a fine balance of players who have demonstrated they have the games best interests at heart rather than a specific agenda. I'd like to think that would qualify people like blid and xinhuan for consideration and i'd be happy to be in their capable hands. Any large influence from a single clan should be avoided however and this could be considered a 'reference group' (no influence in decision making, simply an advisory body)

Probably wouldn't take more effort than setting up a closed forum and inviting people. I don't see an argument against TBH.

lol iscode, what is wrong with the farmers? i've personally won 2 servers with farmers (one of my least played strats) but calling them dirty is a little low. I would say they are inferior in most circumstances aside from late game primary or protected alliance games. certainly not a good one in this server - ask trainboy, he tried fasc farmer many times and only really got t10 potential when he should have been t3 based on his quality of play.

also, does killing all the newbies running untags encourage them to play? that's like your business model or something.. sure it helps them grow into the game at a considered pace, like, well, like ETFT do for new players :)

good to see some changes in the pipeline - will evaluate based on how it appears next set, but generally positive to see some development in an area that has long been promised. i do wonder about the grey areas and general admin load being a bit of an issue, but i guess that's the mod's issue to consider.

vamps, if you choose to run untagged in a team server then you know to expect farming. it's a team game - if you can't defend your land and have no allies then you either have to provide a deterrent or accept you'll be grabbed.

this looks like a watered down and admin-heavy solution that probably won't make much difference, but good to see something is being tried at least - if it doesn't work they can try something else - it's good to see the effort.

Heh i've not been around this set to read all these threads with TSO failing to defend their actions (again), but this is just bullhit mate. As i asked when i pm'd you to try and arrange a CF before the set, we can keep fighting but stop the dumb lying boltar. Can't even admit to your own actions as evidenced by several posts in this thread already!

You FS'd ETFT and killed 2 of our countries before you even started warring TPA. You also killed a seawolf member iirc so us "jumping on board" was actually each tag individually defending themselves after you stupidly decided to try and war us all at the same time.

You subsequently got your ass handed to you for several sets running and got all butthurt about it...

Now you're spewing lies again to try and convince people that history is as you would like to rewrite it (with yourself as - get this - the victim!! haha!). This started as you vs half the server because you attacked half the server, you rewrote it into you vs just ETFT as you'd bitten off more than you can chew. ETFT aren't playing now you're trying to rewrite it again to excuse your persecution of (whoever it is you're killing now -untags by the sound?)

Seriously, the players leaving the server and game stuff is worrying for the game, regardless of personal disputes. There needs to be a balance to all things, including netting v warring or TSO vs netting or whatever it is you pretend justifies your latest actions.

ALL recent game changes were introduced to balance something on alliance IMO :)

+1 for windows calculator though... with the speed i use a num pad i can get a break in seconds flat... express honed the ability to a ludicrous level. I presume the same for most of us here!!

my path is: 2xtanks + turrets, ctrl c, troops/2 + ctrl v, * 1.1 * 1.weap * 1.govt * 1.bonus * 2, / 1.5 / 1.weap / 1.govt.

The only time sink is if you choose to investigate more closely the chances of max allied support, which can be a huge variable.

Frequently when my jets return from PS, I will sell max of turrets and jets (all mil), as this gets you more cash than just selling my turrets would. It also drops me in nw making my turns cheaper to run and opening lower bottom feed targets. That's what I meant by it being more efficient.

More efficient to sell max mil of all types at every sale point, unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

and when you say you'll give me 48h notice before you attack ETFT, then attack ETFT without giving 48h notice, i reckon even you can tell what i'm talking about ;)

we were talking about a war that had waged for 3 resets when we spoke on irc, not a formal agreement was mentioned. you gave me your word, then broke it. like i said you would at the time, as you will recall :) you've suicided us for years - it wasn't any surprise.

lol you didn't ASK anything iscode, you practically BEGGED for amnesty while we were killing you. that moment was definitely the highlight of the war for me so far.

also you did say you'd provide me personally with 48h notice before anything changed with that DNH, to which I laughed as i know you're not a boy of your word, which proved itself. not sure where MONSTERS came into things but didn't matter in the end. no tag kill and we ended higher nw (again)

p.s. you really drag the tone of the war down - be nice and fight about it, win or lose... you're a fluff every other day of the year so may as well enjoy the thing you profess to love so much (warring)

A grudge would imply we'd transgressed in some unforgivable way, when that isn't the case. I didn't think we'd get a response though - there isn't any reason other than they seem to have got butthurt that they keep losing when they pick fights with a small netting tag.

afaik Game profile

could we implement a single-tag equivalent of the primary GDI, i.e. no country in tag A can use special attack/harmful ops against any country in tag B, unless a country in tag B has hit one country in tag A at least 2 times in a set?

that would facilitate war as soon as someone ROR's or multi taps a country, otherwise confining things to grabs and retals, also facilitating netting.

no i haven't thought it through, but the promised changes have been a long time so the discussion needs reviving either way.

this would also remove the 1 hit: kill policies which have emerged due to large alliances coming over from 1a and not being willing to accept the established server protocol.

lol so much funny stuff in this thread... i read the forums less than boltar it would seem. and all x in primary vamps? really? grabbing there is the most fun part...

anyway, on topic (not alin's topic, sorry haha!)
ETFT have always had TSO on DNH, for no reason and without any contact... just don't hit. we did that with ALL serious tags as you can win this server without... no need to generate hate to play successfully.

we also almost never had FA issues, but when we did in the final set, elves didn't respond to any contact... so we agreed FA resolutions with the tag itself (colo was the contact, and the hit was resolved by FA). TSO then killed the country after the resolution was completed.

the country in question and the war itself started from ETFT's side because oldman got topfed by a non-TSO tag, he retalled it 1:1 despite a clear topfeed, then got killed by TSO for retaliating. they then killed lenshark for some reason and TPA started fighting so we jumped in. seawolf also had a similar issue with a guy killed for a straight retal or normal grab and also joined.

so in summary, TSO created a tag without TSO or 'sex' in the title... then tried to enforce a 1:kill policy on the entire server. this was never TSO vs ETFT; to claim so is incorrect.

an interesting admission that's worth recalling:

Secret alliance .. :) 1 man tag as a bait. lol

since they couldn't handle the response from all the netters they killed (3 straight sets of defeats) they've de-scoped their war, and tried to pact everyone except ETFT (last set a case in point, bringing in m0m0 and monsters mid-set to salvage something after several sets of defeat... still didn't payoff somehow)

boltar still maintains it was TSO v ETFT all along, when this hasn't ever been the case and still isn't. not sure quite why ETFT have become the target (latest excuse was that blid posted something lol... blid doesn't play with us, although i wish he would!)

this server has become what express was at one time - a playground to practice your war build, but also a great example of petty bullying. i'm quite happy to stand up to this behaviour, and i may well be the second-last man standing alongside archaic in a few sets time :)

we had the war you craved boltar... FOUR sets of it... wtf is the continued killing about when your latest excuse isn't even anything ETFT have supposedly done?

from keeping an eye in, it looks like all the commies started destocking too late (serp below 100? something went wrong). i'm surprised #13 didn't finish higher also after a near-flawless set.

that said, it was mightily close between bobby and palemoon... a few 100k spread is incredible after a full set, so congrats to palemoon too.
