I think it would be disturbing/scary since paralysis is something people generally don't handle well. Having had oral surgery while awake before, it does just feel like pressure and is in no way painful as describe in the article. It was a short procedure and they didn't take any sort of paralytic measures so I can't speak to that aspect which is apparently painful at times and of course, debilitating. I would certainly imagine it to be a terrible experience just laying there as a helpless witness.
