Are we still doing this?

People complained about the rough and tumble aspects of this server (and Primary) until the special GDI rules were implemented. Fine. We now have a system where you can completely avoid the complained-about problems by joining GDI with a simple click.

But now our group of resident whiners is complaining about what might happen if they "forget" to join GDI. Really??? Have we really set the complexity bar too high? What comes next? A thread complaining about the unfairness of getting farmed if you "forget" to buy any turrets?

Seriously, we now have a format that should accommodate any playing style. If what we have is still too rough for you, it might be time for you to switch to FarmVille.

I don't know if I like it better or not -- want to see how it plays out for a while first. But I can say that this relatively small change may end up shifting strategies significantly. The ability to attack in "super-rush" mode will make the FS very important. It might, for example, lead to smaller clans being able to successfully challenge larger ones if they take proper advantage of a sneak FS attack. We'll have to see to know for sure.

I was online today when SOL did their FS against ICN/LCN. Watching country after country disappear in less than 30 seconds was weird.

The sheer speed of the attacks has made stonewalling *much* harder, which will change strategies and defenses. This impact is magnified when you have a large number of players online at the same time (such as during an initial FS).

You can hit every single country in the server without fear of any kind of "special" retal. This means you can safely run the whole set without a buying a single troop, a single tank, and without spending even $1 on SDI.

Just don't hit anyone more than once.

I often run an all-x strat, too. If you're getting farmed often, you might think of the following:

Joedro makes a good point when he says that that people don't want to hit someone who can retal.

With that in mind, a ton of missiles, a ton of tanks, and the willingness to use them at the least provocation often makes people back *way* off. If they check your news and see that the last guy who farmed you got AB'ed 45 times, they often move on to an easier target.

Just my opinion. Best of luck to you.

A Modest Suggestion

If you still think my points are "completely invalid" we may have to simply agree to disagree -- but there are some facts which you should know which might lead us to some common ground.

First, I never applied the "don't be such a crybaby -- it's a wargame" points to you. These applied to the original poster dantzig who, in my view, was happy to attack other players but quit in a fit of pique when he was attacked himself.

Second, the attack on dantzig was not a *random* event that took place without provocation. I know this for a fact because the player who hit him was me.

What actually happened was this: although dantzig never hit my country, he had farmed two of my allies. On the day I hit him I logged on to see a bunch of "your ally has been hit / you lose X military" messages. The hits were from multiple players but dantzig had the bad luck to be on top -- and I had seen him before in my news. So I spied his country and found that he had minimal tanks and zero SDI. My allies were not in a position to retal against him but I was. So I hit him -- hard.

His country was twice as big as mine and I fully expected to get some very rough treatment the next day ... but it never came. No one was more surprised than me to see that he had completely caved and self-deleted.

Now you know the facts, and here's where I suggest we might find common ground: I agree with you that random suiciding just for the sake of suiciding is lame (although that was not the case here). But I also think that collapsing when being attacked by an enemy half your size, quitting, and then whining about it on the boards is also lame. Maybe you'll agree with that, too.

1. This is a war game. If you want to avoid being attacked successfully, get some defense. If you absolutely don't like the "war" part of the game, switch to tiddly winks. And if you cry about being attacked while playing a war game, you should be prepared to face the derision you deserve -- because a failure to acknowledge easily foreseen consequences is simply immature.

2. It's inconsistent to be in favor of attacking other countries when you are the attacker, but to be offended by attacks when you are the target. This is known as a using a double-standard. When someone employs a double-standard and then whines, "it's not fair!" when the standard is applied back against them, they are called hypocrites and are mocked even in polite society.

3. You are assuming that there was no "provocation" behind the attack. Not that there needs to be (see #1 -- This is a War Game), but the point is that you have no idea whether there was or not. Drawing conclusions without being aware of the pertinent underlying facts is known as ignorance.

Hopefully I have made these points clear to you and have done so in a way that even you can understand. Next time, before you resort to calling people idiots or douchebags, you should try thinking things through.

If you landgrab your way up to 22K acres you run the risk of making enemies. And if you're foolish enough to do it without significant tanks or SDI, you run the risk of getting hit and hit hard.

All I'm getting from this thread is, "I like to attack other players in order to build my awesome country, but if someone hits me I'm going to take my ball and go home. Waaahhh!"

Too bad, so sad.

I personally think that all Lords should die, with the possible exception of W. His deep affection for racially-neutral tempurpedic memory foam shows that he has potential for redemption and may yet see the error of his ways.
